PLEASE: note that all staff and others working from STFC sites are required to undertake two separate but related activities in respect to DSE safety management:

  1. Complete on-line DSE training (link opens in a new window) (guidance)– note this is simply training to ensure that you understand how to set up your workstation correctly to minimise the potential of injuries that can arise from poor DSE use. This short on-line training package takes about 30mins and should be repeated every 5 years.

    AND

  2. Complete a DSE self-assessment of your workstation(s) – to assess and confirm that you have reviewed your workstation and addressed any DSE related safety issues, for example setting your screen at the right height, having an adjustable chair etc. To complete DSE self-assessment follow the link to SHE Assure (link opens in a new window) and complete a DSE assessment on-line, a help/guidance document (PDF - 108kB - link opens in a new window) is available. Note: SHE enterprise is an open access system allowing STFC staff to access all risk assessments including DSE desk/workstation self-assessments. DSE self-assessments should NOT be used to record any sensitive or personal medical information. If you have any concerns please contact your local SHE Group.

If you have any problems with your DSE workstation please talk to your Line Manager or contact your local SHE Group, you can find them through the SHE Directory (link opens in a new window)(Search by role->department).

If you cannot access the on-line system then please use one of these forms:

If you require DSE (or Prescription safety) glasses: the procedure for provision of these can be found on the STFC inFocus web pages (link opens in a new window).
