  • twisting, stooping or reaching upwards?
  • large vertical movement?
  • strenuous pushing or pulling?
  • repetitive handling?
  • insufficient rest or recovery time?
  • a work rate imposed by the process?
  • Use a lifting aid
  • Allow the work to be carried out in a way which avoids periods of static posture
  • Modify the workplace layout to avoid twisting, stooping etc.
Is the load:
  • Heavy or bulky?
  • Difficult to grasp
  • unstable or likely to move unpredictably?
  • Harmful, eg sharp or hot?
  • Awkwardly stacked?
  • Too large to see over?

  • Choose a route which avoid steps or steep ramps
  • Get the lighting upgraded
  • Provide more suitable PPE
Does the task:
  • Require physical capacity above the capacity of the worker?
  • Call for specialist information or training?
  • Provide suitable instruction and training
